Refund/Course Cancellation Policy
If for any reason you decide to drop the 20 Hour course, SmartMLOs.com will issue a refund (less a $25 registration fee) if cancellation occurs by midnight of the 2nd day of a particular session. Failure to complete the course beyond the 2nd day is not grounds for a refund. After the second day of the session, a serious and compelling reason is required to drop from the course and qualify under the refund policy.
Serious and compelling reasons includes: (1) documented and significant change in work hours, leaving student unable to attend class, or (2) documented and severe physical/mental illness/injury to the student or student's family. If you paid by credit card, your account will be credited within 10 days.
Attendance
Participation
Although the 20 hour course is an online course, it is not self-paced (8 hour CE courses ARE self-paced). Student participation is mandatory. Active participation in this class is required and you are expected to participate in all online activities to receive credit for the course. Reasonable deadlines and course pacing have been set, to insure that you have adequate time to complete all assignments within the current session.
Seat Time Is Monitored and Enforced
NMLS course approval guidelines require us to control the student's navigation through the course content to ensure the completion time is appropriate for the number of clock hours for which the course is approved. To that end, seat time is monitored and enforced, and you must accumulate 20 hours on the 20 hour course to receive credit and 8 hours on CE courses. To that end, you must accumulate 20, 50-minute hours on the course to receive credit (8, 50-minutes hours on CE courses). The time remaining per chapter will count down in a clock located in the left column of the course window. There may be instances when the minimum time has elapsed and the time remaining reads 0 before you complete the chapter. If this occurs, you must continue progressing through the course and pass the chapter quiz before you may proceed to the next chapter or to the final exam. The NEXT button will be gray the first time you enter each section of the course. You will not be able to click through to the next section until ninety-seconds have elapsed. After ninety-seconds the button will turn green and you will be able to move forward. The course will automatically log you off if six minutes elapse with no screen activity detected. You will not receive a time-out warning. No time that accrued in the section prior to the automatic logout will be awarded. When you log back in you will be returned to the section of the course where the inactivity was detected. The 90 second minimum timer starts over. To avoid automatic logoffs, make steady progress through the course material. Use the end session in the left column after every study session to ensure no course time is lost due to an automatic logout. There may be times when you have completed a chapter with time remaining on the clock. The minimum time requirement for each chapter must be met before you can continue. To accumulate more time, return to the first section of the chapter using the Table of Contents. Review the course sections in sequence, using the next button to move between sections, until the timer in the left column reads 0. When you have accumulated sufficient time, you will receive access to the next chapter.
Late Work Policy
Anyone who misses two daily due dates in a row without communicating with the instructor prior to the due date will be withdrawn from the course and must start over in a future session. You may work at your own pace within a particular day of your session, but each day's assignments are due by midnight of that day. All work must be completed by the end date of the session. Late assignments will be accepted for "no credit" and will require instructor approval for make-up. There will be no make-up assignments or quizzes, or late work accepted without a serious and compelling reason and instructor approval.
Final Examination and Passing the Course
Completion of the 20 hour course includes taking and passing the course final examination. When you complete the last chapter quiz you receive a link to the course final examination. The final examination must be taken before midnight of the 7th and final day of the course. You must score 70% or better to pass the final examination and receive credit for the course. You will not receive a letter grade for this course. Completion of the course will be Pass/Fail.
To complete the 8 hour CE course, you must take and pass the course final examination. You must score 70% or better to pass the final examination and receive credit for the course. You will not receive a letter grade for this course. Completion of the course will be Pass/Fail.
